For the game lovers and Playstation fans, the waiting is over. The Playstation 3 is set for release. In Japan and the United States, the Playstation 3 will be launched on November 2006. On the other hand, gamers in the Australian and European areas shall have to wait until March 2007. Based on reports, the postponed release date is due to the scarcity of diodes used in the Blu-ray drives.

The Blu-ray drive is a key component of the Playstation 3. With it, PS3 owners can play games and movies. In addition, it can hold up to 54 GB of data. As such, the PS3 users would not have to look for extra media space.

According to statements of Sony, the Playstation 3 will be launched in two configurations: the Premium and the Basic. The Premium comes with a 60 GB upgradeable hard disk, Bluetooth SIXAXIS controllers, Silver-colored logo, Silver-colored trim, built-in Wi-Fi feature, and multiple memory card readers. Meanwhile, the Basic version has only a 20 GB upgradeable hard drive, Blu-ray drive, and controllers. Wi-Fi support and built-in memory card readers are not included. However, the user has the option to purchase adapters to enjoy the memory card reader support. Currently, the Wi-Fi cannot be added.

The retail price of the Playstation 3 is dependent on the region. In the US, the 20 GB PS3 will be sold for US$ 499, while the 60 GB model for US$ 599. In Japan, on the other hand, the Basic version will be retailed for JP¥ 49,980 or US$ 420. Sony has set an open pricing strategy for the 60 GB version in Japan. Meanwhile, in Canada, resellers have set the price of the 20 GB PS3 at C$ 549 or US$ 480, and C$ 659 or US$ 580 for the 60 GB models. In Australia, the PS3 will be available for A$ 829 or US$ 570 and A$ 999 or US$ 680 for the Basic and Premium units, respectively. In Mexico, gamers can have a 20 GB PS3 for MXN$ 7,999 or US$ 640 or a 60 GB one for MXN$ 9,499 or US$ 760. In the Eurozone, excluding Finland, the PS3 are resold for € 499 or US$ 550 (20 GB), and € 599 or US$ 660 (60 GB). In Finland, the 20 GB PS3 can be purchased for NTD$ 14,980 or US$ 451, and the 60 GB model for NTD$ 17,980 or US$ 542. In Taiwan, the price is fixed at NTD$ 14,980 or US$ 451 (Basic), and NTD$ 17,980 or US$ 542 (Premium). And in Hong Kong, the video game console will be retailed for HKD$ 3,180 ($409 US) for the 20 GB, and HKD$ 3,780 ($486 US) for the 60 GB.
